(firmenpresse) - FENTON, MO -- (Marketwire) -- 02/09/12 -- Chiropractor Dr. Margaret Freihaut from Fenton Family Chiropractic has been offering acupuncture treatments to her patients since she earned her acupuncturist's license in 1995. According to Dr. Freihaut, this discipline of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can relieve patients suffering from , neck pain, headaches, fibromyalgia and other ailments. During a session, Dr. Freihaut uses long, thin, FDA-approved needles which have been sterilized, and inserts them into specific points in the patient's skin. She says that although many patients are initially nervous about the treatment, the needles do not cause discomfort when administered by an experienced, properly-trained acupuncturist. Fenton patients often turn to acupuncture as an alternative method to diminish anxiety and improve relaxation within the body.

Dr. Freihaut, who has been a since 1984, explains that the skepticism that some of her patients initially feel becomes enthusiasm after their first experience with : "This has been an integral aspect of Traditional Chinese Medicine for well over 2500 years, and people all over Asia receive help from acupuncturists in the normal course of treatment whenever they have a health problem that needs to be addressed. My patients have found it enormously helpful in overcoming , neck pain, back pain, and even for helping them and work toward their because it helps to bring the body back into balance."

According to Dr. Freihaut, balance is the key when practicing this treatment. According to TCM, every illness or ailment originates from energy imbalances within the body. This energy is referred to as Qi ("chee"), and acupuncturists say it flows through channels within the body called meridians. Dr. Freihaut says that imbalances can stem from things like poor nutrition, stress or injuries. To rebalance the Qi flow, the acupuncturist inserts long, fine needles into points on the skin that correspond to these meridians, with the goal of alleviating pain, relieving stress, and increasing calmness and relaxation.

Dr. Freihaut says that several western medical studies also point towards acupuncture's effectiveness in treating pain, particularly in conjunction with the spinal realignment techniques she also uses in her practice. She says these studies also indicate that the meridians referred to in TCM may correspond to points within the fascia, which is a fibrous network of connective tissues running throughout the body, joining the muscles, blood vessels, nerves, tendons and ligaments.

Dr. Freihaut explains that whenever she feels patients could benefit from her acupuncturist skills, she gives them a complete exam and asks many questions relating to their lifestyles. She says this is necessary because in TCM, all aspects of a person's life and health are interconnected: "My goal is to find out exactly where the imbalance lies so that we can get to the root of the problem. Some of the questions may seem random or unnecessary, but it helps me build a complete picture of that person's health so that the treatment is accurate and I can help them get back to a healthy sense of wellness as soon as possible."
