Industry Consortium Enabling, Facilitating and Driving the Use of IPC-2581 as the Industry Standard

(firmenpresse) - MARLBOROUGH, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/13/12 -- The IPC-2581 Consortium announced today it will be sending member representatives to the 2012 IPC APEX EXPO in San Diego, CA, February 28 - March 1, 2012 in order to spread the organization's message and to accelerate the adoption of IPC-2581 as an open, neutrally maintained global standard data transfer format and to encourage innovation, improve efficiency and reduce costs.

At the show, the group's members will be demonstrating how their products support the IPC-2581 standard and simplify and streamline the data transfer from design to fabrication, assembly and test supply chain saving the industry millions of dollars in waste and lost time.

"The time is right for the industry to move past the outdated process of sending multiple files and myriad file formats to the PCB fabrication, assembly and test suppliers," said Gary J. Carter, senior manager of CAD engineering at Fujitsu Network Communications, a leader in optical transport technologies and founding member of the IPC-2581 Consortium. "With an open, neutrally maintained global standard, the PCB Design and Supply industry will benefit from fewer errors and higher efficiencies. More importantly, systems companies will receive the products they need with the quality they expect at lower cost," he added.

The IPC-2581 Consortium was founded by suppliers from across the PCB design/supply chain including Harris, Ericsson, Fujitsu, nVidia, Sanmina-SCI, Adiva, Cadence Design Systems, DownStream Technologies, Zuken and UP Media. Since the founding additional members have signed on to become members and supporters including Aegis, Cisco, EasyLogix, Intercept, IPC, Lockheed Martin, LogicSwap, ScanCAD, Ucamco and Wise Software.

The IPC-2581 Consortium can be found at booth #713 at 2012 IPC APEX.

IPC-2581 Consortium is a group of PCB design and supply chain companies whose collective goal is to enable, facilitate and drive the use of IPC-2581 in the industry. It is devoted to accelerating the adoption of IPC-2581 as an open, neutrally maintained global standard to encourage innovation, improve efficiency and reduce costs.

Members of the IPC-2581 Consortium include OEMs, EDA/DFM/CAM software companies, PCB fabricators, electronics assemblers and test companies. The Consortium is open to any PCB design and supply chain company that is prepared to support or is committed to a roadmap for IPC-2581 adoption.

IPC-2581 is a generic standard for printed circuit board assembly products' manufacturing description data and transfer methodology. Developed in 2004 by IPC - Association Connecting Electronics Industry, IPC-2581 is used for transmitting information between a printed circuit board designer and a manufacturing or assembly facility. For nearly every step in the industrial process flow, IPC-2581 offers a standard to help companies ensure superior manufacturability, quality, reliability and consistency in electronics assemblies built for their products.
