Will Advise Candidates in Two Hotly Contested Congressional Races
(firmenpresse) - NEWPORT BEACH, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/21/12 -- Cummins & White, LLP, a well-known diversified full-service business and insurance law practice, today announced that partner Michael Houston, head of the political law practice area, will serve as legal counsel and adviser to two candidates running for separate high-profile U.S. congressional seats in California.
The candidates include:
State Senator Tony Strickland, R-Moorpark, who is running for the 26th Congressional District after Rep. Elton Gallegly, R-Simi Valley, announced that he would retire. The new 26th District encompasses most of Ventura County except for part of Simi Valley. In 2008, Strickland was elected as a state senator representing the 19th district. He also served as state assemblyman, representing the 37th District, from 1998 to 2004.
Brad Mitzelfelt, First District supervisor and vice chairman of the Board of Supervisors for San Bernardino County, who is running for the 8th Congressional District representing San Bernardino and Riverside counties, with longtime Rep. Jerry Lewis, R-Redlands, now retiring. The newly drawn 8th District includes all of the High Desert, Highland, Yucaipa, and parts of Inyo and Mono counties.
Houston, who has significant expertise in political law, election law, and government ethics law, will be advising the candidates on all legal aspects of their campaigns.

New legislative maps were approved in 2011 by the independent California Citizens Redistricting Commission. In January, the California Supreme Court denied challenges to the maps, ruling that the maps will be used in this year's elections, despite a pending referendum to overturn them. The congressional primary coincides with the presidential primary on June 5, followed by the Nov. 6 general election.
