Countdown Now on for First Time Buyers

(firmenpresse) - LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 03/07/12 -- LEADING housebuilder Barratt Homes is urging anyone looking to get their foot on the property ladder for the first time this year, to move now. Making the decision to purchase one of many around the country now could save first-time buyers thousands of pounds.

With less than a month to go before first-time buyers will have to pay up to an additional GBP 2,500 in stamp duty costs when buying a property, according to Barratt if you want a new home this year the time has come to make the investment.

Steve Barton, Sales Manager at Barratt Homes Mercia, comments: "The countdown is now on for first-time buyers to save thousands of pounds."

He adds: "Saving for a deposit is now harder than it has ever been and so the reintroduction of stamp duty may hinder some. Those considering getting onto the property ladder this year should move quickly in order to benefit from the stamp duty holiday."

The Government first introduced the stamp duty holiday two years ago, however, it was confirmed in the Chancellor's autumn statement that it will not be extended. Accordingly those first time buyers looking to benefit from this tax break will be required to legally complete on a property under the value of GBP 250,000 by 24th March.

Those who purchase a property above the value of GBP 125,000 after this date will be charged a stamp duty rate of one percent.
