These so-called clubs, operated by Trilegiant (TLG*), Affinion, and their controlling owner Apollo, commonly appear under one or more of the following names:

According to the complaint, Trilegiant is accused of colluding with numerous online merchants in an effort to sell memberships in the above-named discount clubs. Consumers are allegedly tricked or induced into "joining" these clubs when they made purchases at websites operated by the following vendors:

FTD Group
Days Inns Worldwide
Wyndham Worldwide
PeopleFindersPro
Beckett Media
Buy.com
Rakuten USA
IAC/InterActiveCorp
Shoebuy.com
According to the complaint, Trilegiant allegedly gains access to merchants' checkout systems by paying for customers' billing information, including credit card and debit card numbers. Trilegiant also presented consumers with allegedly fake offers on websites operated by these retailers promising incentives such as upfront gifts and cash back rewards but instead charging consumers monthly fees. After being enrolled in these membership/club programs, consumers are allegedly billed each month until the consumer opts out.
In 2006, Trilegiant settled similar charges with attorneys general in 16 states involving the marketing of some of the same membership discount clubs named above via direct mail campaigns. Read more about the prior .
