New iPad Announcement Proves Costly for Sky Bet
(firmenpresse) - LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 03/12/12 -- Popular online site Sky Bet has catalysed much speculation surrounding Apple's release of the new iPad. Last week (and for the first time!), the company offered customers the chance to place bets on a new piece of pre-released technology through their online site and the Sky Bet mobile app, sparking huge debate amongst punters regarding new features that may or may not be present on the latest tablet.
Customers placed bets on features such as the name of the new tablet, the hardware specifications, size and additional or modified features of the iPad. The individual bet was initially kept to a relatively low amount by Sky Bet, due to a risk of those with inside information placing bets. However, after a deluge of worldwide high stake bets, most of which became apparently true, Sky Bet wisely suspended bets from being placed.
"It was our first foray into tech betting and there was a huge amount of interest in the markets but with two out of the three most heavily backed markets duly coming in, it's safe to say the 'Ipunters' cleaned up! No doubt they'll be heading straight down to the Apple shop with their winnings!
The odds of the new hardware not having a carbon fibre back plate had been backed into 1/16 from 2/7 and we took a hit with it not being called the iPad2s, which was a 100/30 shot initially. The only surprise was that the new iPad doesn't have 128GB of storage, which had been backed in from 6/1 to 1/2!"
The new iPad is set to be released on Friday 16th March.
