Thomson Reuters Recognizes Leading Mexican Researchers for Their Contributions to Science and Innovation

Research in Science and Social Sciences/Arts & Humanities further progress in
food technology, health and psychology
MEXICO CITY, MEXICO, March 16, 2012 - The Intellectual Property & Science
business of Thomson Reuters recognized the most highly cited Mexican researchers
across 25 universities in the areas of Science and Social Sciences/Arts &
Humanities at an award ceremony held at the Castillo de Chapultepec last night.
This event is part of the Thomson Reuters partnership with the Consortium of
Mexican Universities (CUMex), a joint initiative to further education and
international collaboration in research.
Researchers acknowledged at last evening's ceremony were:
Science
1(st) Place: Dr. Gonzalo Velazquez de la Cruz, University Autonoma
Tamaulipas, in the area of food science and technology engineering
2(nd) Place: Dr. Fernando Diaz-Barriga Universidad Autonoma de San Luis
Potosi, in the area of environmental and occupational health
3(rd) Place: Dr. Roberto Leyva Ramos, Universidad Autonoma de San Luis
Potosi, in the area of engineering and environmental sciences
Social Sciences/Arts & Humanities
1(st) Place: Ruben Quintero, Salinas Psicologo Clinico, University
Autonoma Tamaulipas, in the area of psychology and pediatrics
2(nd) Place: Dra. Donna Jackson Maldonado, University Autonoma Queretaro,
in the area of psychology linguistics
3(rd) Place: Dr. Ambrocio Mojardin-Heraldez, University Autonoma
Sinaloa, in the area of psychology
4(th) Place: Dr. Miguel Fraga Vallejo, Universidad Autonoma de Baja
California, in the area of psychiatry
"We are honored to have the opportunity to acknowledge these forward-thinking
Mexican researchers and scientists for their contributions to Science and Social
Science," said Keith MacGregor, executive vice president of Thomson Reuters.
"Their work in the areas of psychology, health and food science and technology
is respected internationally and has earned them the recognition of being the
most highly-cited authors within the Consortium of Mexican Universities
(CUMex)."
The award recognizes excellence in research and successful international
collaboration. Analysis of the research candidates across the 25 universities
was done using Thomson Reuters Web of Science. The seven highly cited
researchers were identified after analyzing their papers that were indexed over
20 years in the categories of "Science" and "Social Sciences/Arts & Humanities"
and who have the largest number of citations to their paper, locally and
internationally.
President of the Consortium of Mexican Universities Mario Ochoa described the
event saying, "The awards given to our researchers are very important in
continuing to stimulate scientific research, as well as giving the Instituciones
de Estudios Superiores (IES) the opportunity to ratify its research strategies
and assume a greater commitment to new challenges in the academic environment."

Distinguished guests at last evening's ceremony included Mtro. Rodolfo Tuiran
Gutierrez, Secretary of education, Mexico; Dr. Enrique Villa Rivera, Director of
CONACYT (Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnologia) ; Dr. Adolfo Rodriguez
Gallardo, UNAM library director; and, Mario Alberto Ochoa Rivera, president of
