Dr. Wendee Whitehead is urging and neck pain patients to seek . Dr. Whitehead has had great success treating back problems resulting from a , including , and is encouraging pain patients to consider spinal adjustments.
"Many pain patients are unaware that spinal adjustments are an effective, patient-proven treatment for relieving ," said Dr. Whitehead. "Our wellness center is committed to spreading the word about non-invasive pain management and educating patients about effective alternatives to prescription painkillers."
According to Dr. Whitehead, not only can these treatments relieve chronic pain, but they can also improve short-term memory and cognitive function.
A 1999 study published in the scientific research magazine Spine established a link between and slower reaction speeds, reduced short-term memory and difficulty completing motor tasks.
"When the body is out of alignment, the nervous system is unable to effectively communicate and send messages," said Dr. Whitehead. "The Spine study clearly illustrates the dangers of ignoring back pain or covering up this pain with medication. While painkillers can provide temporary relief, medication cannot restore proper alignment to the body. Without proper alignment, patients will continue to experience these cognitive impairments."
The Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics published the results of a 1999 pilot study that found a link between , and improved memory and reaction times. The study, which compared the benefits of acupuncture, prescription medication and spinal adjustments, found that no change occurred for the acupuncture and medication groups while the spinal adjustment group showed significant improvement.
"My own work with Austin pain patients clearly echoes these studies, showing the profound positive effect of ," said Dr. Whitehead. "Spinal adjustments are a gentle, natural way to bring alignment back to the body. By correcting the underlying cause for pain, my patients are not only able to live active lives, but also enjoy cognitive benefits including enhanced short-term memory and reaction speeds."
Pain patients visiting Dr. Whitehead first receive a comprehensive diagnostic exam and detailed evaluation. Based on the identified spinal subluxations, Dr. Whitehead will use a combination of spinal adjustment techniques, including the Activator Methods, the Thompson Terminal Point Technique, the Gonstead Technique and the Cox-Flexion Distraction table.
"Each patient faces unique wellness needs, and my job is to create a customized treatment plan that corrects the underlying spinal misalignment while providing immediate pain relief," said Dr. Whitehead.
