Swinerton Completes New Bay Bridge Toll Operations Building for Bay Area Toll Authority
(firmenpresse) - SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/23/12 -- The Bay Bridge got one step closer to its transformation as switched out their hardhats for cameras to capture the completion of the new toll operations building for the Caltrans Bay Area Toll Authority. With a uniquely located jobsite in the center median between the toll booths at the westbound approach and the east bound lanes immediately adjacent to the bay, there were plenty of excellent shots taken against a beautiful sky in honor of this major construction milestone on the project.
This 22,000-square-foot, steel-framed, two-story building is comprised of concrete on metal deck with pile foundations. The exterior features white metal panels and glass curtain wall, with a glass hand-railed walkway to the main entrance. The new will continue to provide Caltrans administration, toll collection, & electronic monitoring of the toll operations, each of which required specially designed and constructed fire suppression, communication, & security systems. Demolition of the existing building and creation of a parking lot with landscaping is yet to come.
Swinerton worked collaboratively with and Construction Manager, Bay Area Management Consultants (BAMC), to successfully complete the project. The building was designed and built to LEED Silver standards and will seek certification from the USGBC. Swinerton is proud to have built a piece of history in San Francisco as the initial phase to what ultimately becomes the replacement of the San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge, an iconic monument in the Bay Area.
