TaylorMade Golf Company CEO Mark King to Appear on CBS's Hit Series UNDERCOVER BOSS the Week of the Masters
King Goes Undercover Friday, April 6, at 8:00 PM, ET/PT on the CBS Television Network
(firmenpresse) - CARLSBAD, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/29/12 -- TaylorMade Golf Company, comprised of three of the strongest global golf brands in the industry, announced that President and CEO Mark King will be featured on an episode of the two-time Emmy Award-nominated reality series UNDERCOVER BOSS.
Each week, UNDERCOVER BOSS follows a different executive as they leave the comfort of their corner office for an undercover mission to examine the inner workings of their companies. While working alongside their employees, they see the effects their decisions have on others, where the problems lie within their organizations and get an up-close look at both the good and the bad while discovering and rewarding the unsung heroes who make their companies run.
In this episode, King works in a few different capacities ranging from a quality control auditor at the golf ball plant in Westminster, S.C., to a golf club assembler at the company's headquarters in Carlsbad. In preparation for his role and in an effort to disguise himself from employees, King shaved his head, wore fake teeth, earrings, a tattoo, baggy clothes and grew a scruffy beard.
"My first reaction to hearing about this opportunity was laughter and disbelief because anyone who knows me knows that everything about me is incapable of a disguise," said King. "After hearing that this wasn't a joke and after being re-assured that there actually was a disguise that would allow me to go under cover, I realized that this was a tremendous opportunity to re-engage our employees. I wanted to see if the values and strategies we put in place at our executive level were being communicated down to the front line employees. Things have certainly changed since I was on those front lines 30 years ago, but I came away with a better appreciation of all of the hard work and passion that goes into making us the best golf company in the world."
Born and raised in Green Bay, Wis., King originally joined TaylorMade Golf, then a start-up company, as a territory sales representative, and later served as regional sales manager, national merchandising manager and vice president of sales. In 1999 he was named president, then added the title of CEO in 2002. Under King's leadership the company's sales rose from $300 million in 1999 to $1.5 billion today, and the TaylorMade and adidas Golf brands became the most dominant in the game, with TaylorMade metalwoods and irons each ranking No. 1 in marketshare and adidas Golf apparel ranking No. 1 and footwear No. 2.
The adidas Group is one of the global leaders within the sporting goods industry, offering a broad range of products around the core brands: adidas, Reebok, TaylorMade, Rockport and Reebok-CCM Hockey. Headquartered in Herzogenaurach, Germany, the Group has more than 46,000 employees and generated sales of over EUR 13 billion in 2011.
Headquartered in Carlsbad, California, TaylorMade-adidas Golf Company sells golf clubs, balls, clothing and accessories under the TaylorMade, adidas Golf and Ashworth brands. TaylorMade-adidas Golf Company posted 2011 sales of over EUR 1.0 billion.
