Anita Borg Institute Opens Scholarship Applications for the 2012 Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing
Students Have Opportunity to Collaborate and Learn From Leading Technical Women
(firmenpresse) - PALO ALTO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 04/02/12 -- The Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology announced today that scholarship applications are now being accepted for the Conference, which brings together women from all aspects of computer science and engineering. This year's conference will be held October 3-6, 2012 in Baltimore, MD. The deadline for is May 15, 2012.
Full and partial scholarships to this year's conference are made possible by industry sponsors, grants, and individual contributions. Full scholarships cover conference registration, lodging for four nights, and travel expense reimbursement. Partial scholarships are also available. While the largest portion of scholarships are awarded to undergraduate and graduate students, junior faculty and members of non-governmental organizations and non-profits are also eligible to apply.
Applications are only being accepted online. A scholarship committee consisting of women and men from industry and academia performs reviews of the applications and scores each one. Scholarships are awarded to the candidates with the highest scores from a diverse cross-section of schools and regions.
"We encourage international students or women from smaller schools with diverse backgrounds and education to apply. We consider academic achievement, potential in the field, and need," says Barbara Gee, VP of Programs, Anita Borg Institute. "We also look for thoughtful, creative, well-written essays that stand out."
The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing is a program of the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology and is co-presented with the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).
The theme of this year's 12th annual conference is "Are We There Yet?" The conference will feature keynote speakers, plenary sessions, panels, poster session, and workshops led by successful researchers and professionals in the computer science industry.
