breaks for video games
Eindhoven, April 4, 2012 - Catalis SE, the worldwide service provider for
the digital media and entertainment industry, today welcomed the recent
announcement of tax breaks for the UK games industry from April 2013.
'The chancellor's announcement of UK tax breaks is very welcome news
indeed, and will encourage further inward investment to the UK', said
Jeremy Lewis, CEO of Catalis SE, and added 'The subsidiaries of Catalis
operate significant game production capacity in the UK and are well
positioned to benefit from such investment. Furthermore, it contributes to
the growth of the industry and will benefit the UK economy.'
Adrian Hawkins, COO of Kuju Entertainment, the game development arm of
Catalis SE, said 'This news has been a while coming, and we are overjoyed
to see these tax incentives finally arriving. Our industry's trade body,
TIGA, are to be congratulated on their sterling work in campaigning for
this change. It will create a level playing field for competition with
Canada and France, and I am very much looking forward to consulting with
both the government and TIGA over the details of how this will work.'
The UK government announced this change during the recent March budget, and
expects it to take a similar form to the tax breaks already enjoyed by film
production companies, which can often see rebates of between 20% and 25% of
qualifying production costs.
