Cracks Appear in Easter Finances for Families

(firmenpresse) - LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 04/04/12 -- Last year, parents on average spent GBP 386.76 on keeping their kids entertained over the Easter holidays before they went back to school. But in a reflection of the tough economic climate, financially squeezed parents are expecting to spend less than 50% of that amount this year - around GBP 178.95 on average.
The research, conducted with 5,000 British parents by Travelodge, also revealed that to help save money this Easter, cash strapped parents are taking their children on inexpensive trips to the countryside, the seaside, to museums and to visit family and friends.
Only 19% of British families are taking a foreign holiday this Easter break; instead a third are planning on taking a short staycation in the UK, and listed below are the top ten UK Easter holiday hotspots for 2012:
Parents also reported on average they are planning on taking their children on three individual day trips with the average trip costing around GBP 36.89 - under 19% planning on travelling abroad.
Louise Hale, Travelodge Revenue Director said: "British families are certainly feeling austerity bite their Easter spending this year, with rising costs hijacking their holiday budget by half. This is forcing parents to be more resourceful on how they keep the children entertained over the school holidays. We have seen a rise in the number of more single night bookings across this Easter school holiday. Families are reducing the number of nights they stay in one location and are taking more overnight breaks so that they can visit several locations over the holidays. This helps children think they have been on lots of holidays during the Easter break and gives them plenty to boast about in the playground when they get back to school."
To help parents ease the cost of getting away this Easter, Travelodge has developed a series of guides to explore Britain for free. Travelodge has plenty of across the UK to choose from and help complement short stays. The guides can be downloaded from in the news and offers section. There are guides for rural and city breaks, including details of , Manchester and other cities across the UK.
