(firmenpresse) - ALEXANDRIA, VA -- (Marketwire) -- 04/06/12 -- Author Kathie Truitt takes readers to her hometown of El Dorado Springs., Mo., in her humorous second novel, "The Hillbilly Debutante Café," .

Like Truitt, the main character, Molly McCarty, is a woman with a small-town heart who found herself living in the fast-paced, plugged-in big city of Washington, D.C. -- "Ellie Mae Clampett in a Jackie Kennedy world," as Truitt describes it. Unlike the author, Molly's able to return to her roots. She buys a farm and plugs into the local gossip, intrigue and drama.

"Some of the characters are based on real people in the town," says Truitt, who also blogs about her lifestyle as a Southern country girl in the city, and sells a related line of shabby-chic fashion and home décor items at her site. "I wanted to move back to my hometown, but that didn't happen, so I thought the next best thing was to write about it."

Truitt's story and style have won flattering reviews.

"I feel blessed to have found this 'new' author," wrote amazon.com reviewer P. Hamilton of Virginia. "She ranks right up there with the best of the best."

In the story, the town's disparate characters come together for the good of the community, something Truitt also hopes to do with the help of "Hillbilly Debutante."

El Dorado Springs is struggling financially, she says.

"I hope the book gets tourists interested in visiting the town to meet the business owners I describe," she says. "I'm also planning an Antique & Book Festival there on April 14 with a Hillbilly Debutante ball the night before."

It seems her mission is being accomplished.

"Kathie Truitt has an incredible way of writing that simply makes you want to be in El Dorado Springs, Mo.," writes Lindsay Bowman, author of "Jeans Boots are Made for Talking."

"I found myself researching the mileage between there and my hometown."

Kathie Truitt is a former radio personality, public speaker, and Mrs. Missouri America. She's also the author of "False Victim," a novelized memoir about being stalked by a neighbor, which eventually forced her from her home. Truitt blogs about fashion, day trips to quaint Southern communities and businesses, and trying to keep it simple in the nation's capital. She also sells vintage-style clothing, accessories and jewelry at .
