According to a regulatory filing by Verizon wireless the company is already having spectrum shortages in certain markets. Rival carrier AT&T had sought to acquire T-Mobile to help with their spectrum shortages, but withdrew the offer after the federal government sued to block the deal.
"It really is a big deal," said Nancee Ruzicka, Denver-based director of strategy for market research firm Stratecast. "No matter what you're willing to pay or what you're willing to do, it's almost going to become that gridlock situation where this is all there is. It's a physics issue. There's only so much spectrum."

AT&T Inc. announced that the company's first-quarter 2012 financial results will be released Tuesday, April 24, 2012. The company's earnings release, Investor Briefing and related materials will be available on AT&T's website by 8 a.m. ET. At 10 a.m. ET the same day, AT&T will host a conference call to discuss the results.
Clearwire Corporation plans to announce its first quarter 2012 financial results on Thursday, April 26, 2012. The financial release will be posted on the company's website at approximately 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Clearwire executives will host a conference call and webcast following the release at 4:15 p.m. Eastern Time.
