Cutting-Edge Technology to Help City Reduce Operational Costs While Increasing Revenues and Consumer Convenience

(firmenpresse) - VANCOUVER, BC -- (Marketwire) -- 04/23/12 -- Today, Digital Payment Technologies () (DPT) announced the License-Plate-Enabled Parking deployment of 30 LUKE II parking pay stations in the city of Flint, Mich. These high-tech, solar-powered, LUKE II parking pay stations will operate in a Pay-by-License Plate (PBL) mode and will provide Flint with additional revenue, while improving parking turnover. Parking will be enforced using License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology from Tannery Creek Systems. The pay stations are being installed by Traffic & Safety Controls Systems.

With Pay-by-License Plate (PBL), consumers enter their license plate number at the pay station when paying for a parking session. They do not need to enter a space number or return to their cars to place a receipt. They simply pay and head to their destination.

With no space numbers to mark and keep clean, the PBL operational mode costs less to maintain than Pay-by-Space (PBS). It also eliminates "pass-back" concerns associated with a Pay-and-Display (PND) mode. PBL also offers increased enforcement efficiency through Tannery Creek's LPR technology. All pay stations have been purchased outright, allowing all net revenue to directly benefit the city.

The new LUKE II multi-space parking pay stations in Flint will accept payment via credit cards and coins, and will utilize a Wi-Fi network infrastructure to perform tasks such as real-time credit card authorization and to access DPT's backend Enterprise Management System (EMS). The EMS gives city officials real-time insight into the operational status of the pay stations, as well as detailed reporting on revenues that have been generated.

"The city of Flint is on the cutting edge of new parking technologies with this Pay-by-License Plate deployment," said Alan Menezes, vice president of product management and marketing at Digital Payment Technologies. "This new parking system will help Flint to generate much-needed revenues while optimizing user convenience, thanks to the user-friendly design."

Menezes continued, "And by choosing PBL, the city has a lot of flexibility to make its operations even more efficient. They have the option to integrate Pay-by-Phone or Extend-by-Phone in the future, should they choose to do so. Because PBL, Pay-by-Phone and Extend-by-Phone are all license plate-based systems, the city would be able to simplify management and enforcement of parking policies."

Added Gerard Burnash, executive director, Flint Downtown Development Authority, "We have already received positive feedback regarding the new pay and go capability, and local retailers are happy to see parking turnover is encouraged to open up spaces for their patrons. We are excited about the convenience and efficiency that the new parking meters bring to our citizens and parking enforcement operations."

The city of Flint is charging $1 per hour for parking to maximum of 2 hours; with free parking after 5 p.m. and on weekends. Consumers will have the flexibility to park anywhere in the city, where paid parking is enforced, once they enter their license plate number and have paid. Outside of the Central Business District (Brush Alley to Buckham Alley and I-69 to the Flint River) on street parking will remain free with a 2 hour limit.
