Company Recognized for Innovative Two-Dimensional Ultrasonic Testing Process for
Raised Gallery Pistons; Hybrid Liner Technology a Finalist
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., April 25, 2012 . Federal-Mogul Corporation (NASDAQ: FDML) was
the recipient of a 2012 Automotive News PACE(TM) Awards at a black-tie ceremony
on April 23 in Detroit. The prestigious award recognizes automotive suppliers
for superior innovation, technological advancement and business performance.
The company's Two-Dimensional (2D) Ultrasonic Testing for Raised Gallery Diesel
Pistons was recognized in the Manufacturing Process category, which recognizes
innovations involving game-changing manufacturing or business processes that
support the automotive supply chain.
Federal-Mogul's 2D Ultrasonic Testing and Analysis process is helping to create
a new generation of high-performance pistons that is a substantial enabler in
further diesel engine downsizing. In its first application, the significantly
improved cooling capability of the new raised-gallery piston enabled a major
automotive manufacturer to achieve a CO2 reduction of 30 percent compared with
the previous generation engine.

Federal-Mogul's Hybrid Cylinder Liner technology was a finalist in the Product
category, which highlights innovations in new products, components or systems
that have significant market impact and are "game changers" in the automotive
industry. The company's Hybrid Liner technology helps to reduce bore distortion
and improve function in the latest generation of lighter, more highly loaded
gasoline engines. The patented liner technology provides reliable, cost-
effective and long-term performance for engines with high outputs and low oil
consumption.
Federal-Mogul has previously won nine Automotive News PACE Awards. The company
received two PACE Awards in 2011 for its EcoTough(®)-coated piston and LKZ(®)
oil control ring, and three in 2010 for its DuraBowl(®) piston reinforcement
process, High Precision Electro-Erosion Machining (HPEEM) manufacturing process
and Bayonet Connection System for profile wiper blades. The company also was
honored with PACE Awards for its High-Temperature Alloy (HTA) gaskets and
Goetze(®) Diamond Coating (GDC(®)) for piston rings in 2007; for its Monosteel(®
)diesel piston in 2006 and for its Wagner(®) ThermoQuiet(®) brake pads and shoes
in 2003.
The 18th annual PACE (Premier Automotive Suppliers' Contribution to Excellence)
Award was presented by Automotive News, Ernst & Young LLP and Transportation
Research Center Inc. (TRC Inc.). The competition was open to suppliers who
contribute products, processes, materials or services directly to the
manufacture of cars or trucks. The Automotive News PACE Award is accepted
around the world as the industry symbol of innovation.
