Gardening Proves the Most Resilient Category in the Home and Garden Industry According to Euromonitor
Euromonitor International Launches New System Focused on the Home and Garden Industry

(firmenpresse) - LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 05/03/12 -- Market research company Euromonitor International is proud to announce the launch of Passport: Home and Garden - a newly created information system dedicated to the global home and garden industry. It provides industry players with comprehensive market data and trend analysis on home improvement, gardening, homewares and home furnishings. Euromonitor's research shows that changes in household structures, the desire to spend more time and invest more money in the home and increasing urbanisation across the globe are causing major shifts in the industry. Consequently, gardening achieved a strong position of growth, according to Euromonitor's latest research on the .
Gardening proved impervious to declines in consumer spending that affected many developed economies in 2011, serving as the sole growth category in several of Western Europe's home and garden markets. Ageing populations, the rising popularity of outdoor living, and trends like 'grow-your-own' all contributed to growth in the gardening market particularly for countries like France and the UK, where slow economic recovery continues to constrain consumer spending in homewares and home furnishings.
"Our 2011 research shows that gardening was the best performing category with 12 out of 32 markets doing well. This is largely driven by developed and mature markets like Germany and Japan with ageing populations," explains Cruz del Barrio, Global Head of Home and Garden Research at Euromonitor International. "Baby boomers are now coming into retirement, and with more spare time on their hands, they are turning to gardening as a hobby."
"Gardening has delivered positive performance in these difficult times, where other categories like home improvement and home furnishings have been falling" continues del Barrio. "Looking ahead, the industry is expected to see sluggish growth with only China forecast to deliver double digit growth through to 2016, while several developed countries like Switzerland to Australia will contract."
Passport: Home and Garden builds on Euromonitor's existing research expertise combining Passport: DIY and Gardening and Passport: Housewares and Home Furnishings to deliver one solution that better reflects the information needs of the industry. It offers value data, company and brand shares and channel analysis in 32 international markets and is complemented with supporting written analysis for individual country markets, global trend reports and global company profiles.
