The perfect solution: TALEXX LED systems create a feel-good atmosphere in a staff restaurant
Dornbirn, February 17, 2009 – The pharmaceuticals company Boehringer Ingelheim has opted for products from the TALEXX LED family for illuminating and decorating its staff restaurant and adjoining rooms. The flexibility of TALEXX technology means that the lighting system offers exceptional versatility and significant energy savings.
The new illuminated staff restaurant of Boehringer Ingelheim(firmenpresse) - The demands on the lighting system in the staff restaurant, in the Lounge Bar and at the coffee counter certainly presented a tough challenge. It had to reflect the cosmopolitan nature of Boehringer Ingelheim and at the same time crate a feel-good atmosphere for the employees. The fact that the rooms were used for different events also had to be taken into consideration.
Innovative technology for impressive effects
The project was completed using LED modules from the TridonicAtco’s TALEXX range. The required lighting effects are provided by TALEXXeos P211-2 modules and various TALEXXchain units. Different spot and fresnel lenses and the necessary TALEXX converters, dimmers and controllers were fitted depending on the specific type of lighting required.
LED modules in red, green, blue and white were installed to satisfy the need for extensive colour effects. LEDs in warm white illuminate the dessert counter, which daylight white LEDs are used for the lounge and coffee counter. Metal halide lamps provide high-quality general illumination in the staff restaurant. Special luminaires were developed for the multi-functional banqueting hall.
Impressive energy savings
The seating area is generously proportioned with a seven metre high ceiling. As many as 936 people can be seated at once in an area of around 1300 m2. There are a further 270 seats and standing room for 70 people in the cafeteria. It is important however not only for the employees to feel comfortable but also the guests at the various events. The lounge and the barista counter presented further challenges.
The new lighting concept not only reflects the cosmopolitan nature of the company but also pays tribute to the “green credentials” of Boehringer Ingelheim. The green spaces outside the company headquarters are continued in abstract form in the staff restaurant. Six stylised “trees” made of concrete provide structure for the room, sophisticated lighting with changing colours and a pleasant atmosphere.
The various buffet counters are lit with energy-saving LED modules. For example, the lighting for the BI vital counter has a connected output of only 170 W even though there are 900 LED light points providing exceptional brightness – this lighting level could not be achieved with conventional fluorescent lamps. LEDs do not emit any infra-red or ultra-violet light, which means that the meals and desserts are not exposed to any harmful radiation of this type.
The lighting for the lounge and the barista counter with TALEXX LEDs is also energy-efficient and emits very little heat. Thanks to LEDs, it was also possible to meet special requirements such as absolutely uniform background lighting and cove lighting above the coffer counter.
The project at Boehringer Ingelheim, implemented in conjunction with FLASHAAR Ingenieure GmbH, clearly shows that the in-depth know-how of TridonicAtco in the field of LED lighting and specific expertise in white light has resulted in solutions that could not have been achieved with conventional technology.
