Ft. Myers Retirement Community Provides Residents Affordable Internet Utilizing Proxim Wireless Equipment

Myers, Florida, has launched its own community WiFi internet network for its residents at an affordable cost.
Tamiami Village is a large retirement community in Ft. Myers, a city of 63,000 located on the banks of the Caloosahatchee River on southwest Florida's coast. Myers as #8 in their "10 best places to retire in the U.S." due to its beauty, culture, housing, property taxes and cost of living being 5% less than the national average.
A few years ago a neighboring retirement community in Bonita Springs had used the Proxim Wireless WiFi solution to provide internet access to its residents utilizing a 40-foot pole in the center of the park along with Proxm's MP-11 base station. Tamiami Village was interested in a better, inexpensive internet solution for its residents and presented a proposal to the Homeowners Association that mirrors the Bonita Springs retirement community WiFi network. The funds were approved and Tamiami Villiage now has a 40-foot pole in the center of the park utilizing Proxim's MP-8100 base station and omni antenna.
"Since our retirement community is on a fixed income, many residents had to go to the clubhouse to access the internet," said Barbara J. "With our own WiFi network, more of our residents can now afford their own internet access as we charge a one-time fee for the subscriber unit and a small fee to cover the cost of the installation."
