TaylorMade Golf Company Makes Unique Proposition to Major League Starting Pitchers Following SF Giants Matt Cain's Perfecto
Company to Provide R11S Driver to Starting Pitchers Who Adopt Cain's "Perfect" Pre-Game Routine
(firmenpresse) - CARLSBAD, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 06/14/12 -- Prior to making franchise history last night on the eve of the 112th U.S. Open, San Francisco Giants pitcher Matt Cain and PGA Tour star Dustin Johnson ((at)DJohnsonPGA) launched golf balls into McCovey Cove as part of an exhibition hosted by TaylorMade Golf Company ((at)taylormadegolf). This unique, first-time, pre-game "routine" worked well for Cain as he tossed the 22nd perfect game in major league history.
Today, TaylorMade Golf announced it is offering one of its iconic R11S drivers -- the same model used by Cain and Johnson -- to any major league starting pitcher who wants to mimic Cain's June 13 pre-game routine. The interested player would have to launch a golf ball out of their respective home ballpark the day of their next scheduled start.
"Pitchers and golf have always had a special relationship and it was nice to see it all come together on a perfect night," said Bob Maggiore, chief marketing officer for TaylorMade. "A huge congratulations to Matt and the Giants for their memorable and historical night. This might have been the 22nd perfect game, but clearly the first preceded by hitting a golf ball out of the ballpark."
Johnson, last week's winner of the FedEx St. Jude's Classic who today begins round one of the U.S. Open at the Olympic Club, also threw out the first pitch prior to the Giants game against the Astros.
"What a game by Matt Cain!!!" said Johnson on Twitter after the game.
