(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 06/18/12 -- Brookfield Renewable Energy Group announced today that $350,000 has been distributed among five charitable organizations in the Ottawa-Gatineau region: the Centre de pediatrie sociale de Gatineau, the Franco-Ontarian Society for Autism, Trait d'Union Outaouais, the Zach Foundation and Candle Lighters Ottawa. The funds were raised by Brookfield Renewable together with sponsors of its annual charity golf tournament held last Friday. The 2012 event raised the single largest amount in its 8-year history, and all proceeds were given to these organizations dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of children in our region. Each year, Brookfield Renewable selects multiple organizations to be the recipients of the tournament proceeds. The tournament has raised over $1.5 million since its inception in 2005, supporting 12 organizations and the thousands of people they serve.

"This event is so special to us because it allows us to support the work of these remarkable organizations and their tireless efforts in helping children in our communities. We are deeply grateful to our generous sponsors, donors and participants who team up with us to make a difference in our communities," said Richard Legault, President & Chief Executive Officer of Brookfield Renewable.

Each year, Brookfield Renewable holds its charity golf tournament at the Fairmount Chateau Montebello Golf Club in Montebello, Quebec. The 2012 event attracted 75 sponsors/donors including CIBC, Fidelity National Title, McGladrey, RNC Media and Torys, and over 200 participants. Event proceeds are matched by Brookfield Renewable and donated directly to the charitable organizations at a reception following the event.
