CTEMS Research: Lack of Wireless Policy Governance Results in the Majority of Corporations Unaware of User Violations

(firmenpresse) - INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- (Marketwire) -- 06/25/12 -- AOTMP, the leading authority on driving efficiency and performance into fixed and mobile telecom environments, today announced that members of the have identified a lack of consistency between departmental creation and management of corporate wireless policies and compliance monitoring, resulting in an unquantifiable number of user violations.
CTEMS, a collaborative group focused on advancing the fixed and mobile telecom management industry, regularly solicits feedback from its membership of multi-functional professionals from both enterprise and industry supplier organizations.
According to recent feedback from CTEMS members, 87% of enterprises and 78% of fixed and mobile telecom management suppliers report that Telecom / IT is the primary group responsible for wireless policy creation and management; Human Resources (5%) and Procurement (4%) are the second and third most common groups according to enterprises.
Additionally, 62% of enterprises report having separate policies for fixed and mobile network systems and services, while only 8% report having a single policy addressing all fixed and mobile network systems and services.
The effectiveness of policy can be determined by evaluating compliance practices. 74% of enterprises indicate that Telecom / IT is responsible for policy compliance monitoring; Legal (27%) and Human Resources (19%) are the second and third most common groups.
"Lack wireless policy governance leaves the majority of enterprises and suppliers unaware of the number of out-of-policy user violations experienced each month, suggesting that compliance performance details are either not commonly known, or compliance practices are not fully adopted," said Timothy Colwell, Executive Director of CTEMS.
Among enterprises that are knowledgeable, they report an average of 5% of users violate policy each month. Suppliers report slightly higher monthly policy violation rates among their clients with 15% per month on average.
CTEMS membership currently consists of more than 327 members, including enterprise professionals responsible for managing more than $10.3 billion in annual telecom spend. Leadership from carriers, vendors, consultants and technology suppliers working in the TEM and WMM supplier industry are also represented.
