PCIe-Focused Agenda Includes Fabrics, Independent SSC Operation, Optical and Copper Connectivity

(firmenpresse) - SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 06/26/12 -- PLX Technology, Inc. (PLX®) (NASDAQ: PLXT), a leading global supplier of high-speed connectivity solutions enabling emerging data center architectures, today announced the company will deliver a visionary presentation and host a live demonstration of its unique ExpressLane™ PCI Express® (PCIe®) Gen3 products at the upcoming 20th Anniversary , held July 11-12, 2012, at the Santa Clara Convention Center, in Santa Clara, Calif.

PLX is teaming with experts from Avago and Molex to demonstrate utilizing PCIe Gen3 switches to showcase plug-and-play, box-to-box connectivity using optical modules, connectors and cables -- without any special hardware or software -- to achieve astounding high performance. The demonstration's highlights include a x4 PCIe configuration achieving 32Gbps throughput via economical mini-SAS HD or dual-optical USB. The demonstration will also prove how "independent SSC" operation can be achieved without spread-spectrum clocking (SSC) isolation, showing that neither clock management, additional clock chips/buffers nor protocol translations are needed, resulting in simple scalability and connectivity, lower connection costs and higher density.

In addition, at 1 p.m. on Wednesday during the conference, a PLX executive will present a paper titled "Implementing Systems using PCI Express as a Fabric" (known as ExpressFabric®), which details a next-generation system model using PCIe-centric hardware and software as the backbone of a data center rack.

Analysts see high-volume numbers for PCIe as an indicator of sweeping acceptance across a broad and growing variety of platforms, including cloud-driven data centers featuring racks loaded with server, switch and storage products, as well as consumer-targeted motherboards and gaming cards, and a wide range of embedded applications.

"PCI Express is a natural fit for our embedded parallel optics, which delivers the speed and overall performance necessary to enable box-to-box connections," said Steve Shultis, director of marketing for fiber optic products at Avago. "Our work with PLX provides another example of Avago serving as the technology partner of choice to develop innovative fiber optic solutions for new applications."

"Implementation of the Molex iPass+™ HD x4 connector provides a higher-performance, higher-density, copper interface for PCI Express Gen3 box-to-box applications," said Jay Neer, industry standards manager at Molex. "The PLX and Molex combination takes PCI Express to the next level."

"With the wide-scale deployment of PCI Express products throughout the market and today's rapid adoption of Gen3 into most new PCI Express designs, PLX's switch and software portfolio remains in a unique position to capitalize on this powerful interconnect technology's amazing growth," said Reginald Conley, vice president, hardware applications, PLX. "PCI Express's high performance and feature-rich product offerings have made it the dominant I/O within the box. With our new Gen3 capabilities including optical and copper demonstrations, we are now swiftly moving ahead to extend PCI Express outside the box and into new markets."
