(firmenpresse) - AUSTIN, TX -- (Marketwire) -- 06/29/12 -- President and CEO , a three-time cancer survivor, today issued the following statement regarding the proceeding against , founder and chairman of the Foundation, cancer survivor and cycling champion.

"Lance has worked tirelessly for 15 years to further the fight against the world's leading cause of death and empower its survivors. He has been instrumental in securing billions of dollars for cancer research and prevention programs and we are enormously grateful to him for his leadership and generosity.

"We are concerned about the integrity and oversight of this proceeding and hope that Lance will be given the opportunity he deserves to assert his innocence.

"As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization which prizes transparency and the highest standards of governance, we struggle to understand the leadership choices and apparent lack of openness by another non-profit, funded predominantly by the federal government with U.S. tax dollars.

"The Foundation will remain 100 percent focused on serving the financial, physical and practical needs of cancer survivors, especially in underserved communities throughout the U.S., as we always have."

The Lance Armstrong Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization which provides free, bilingual patient navigation services to people and families affected by cancer, supports that further the fight against cancer and support its survivors. Armstrong created the Foundation in 1997, prior to resuming his cycling career, as he was concluding treatment for testicular cancer. He serves as the Foundation's chairman and remains its single biggest donor, having contributed nearly $6.5 million to support its survivor-focused mission. Armstrong served six years on the President's Cancer Panel and is a devoted advocate for increased cancer research funding and patients' rights.
