Startup Edmonton Fosters Innovation and Entrepreneurs

(firmenpresse) - EDMONTON, ALBERTA -- (Marketwire) -- 06/29/12 -- supports entrepreneurs and amplifies creative innovation to help strengthen Edmonton's knowledge-based economy.

Founded in 2009, Startup Edmonton is an entrepreneur-led non-profit that brings together a diverse mix of entrepreneurs, designers and engineers through events and programs designed to cultivate a community of creativity and innovation. Over the next five years through its , Startup will be launching 500 entrepreneurs, and will be announcing the first group July 2012.

Other Startup Edmonton-led initiatives include DemoCamps - developers demonstrate projects to get feedback and support, Hackathons - developers and designers come together to build apps or games in the span of one weekend, and - a program that brings people together to share ideas worth spreading.

Headquartered downtown, Startup Edmonton recently moved into the Mercer Warehouse, which offers local entrepreneurs a collective work and meeting space, as well as opportunities to collaborate and build new ventures.

Startup Edmonton is one of the members of the Greater Edmonton Regional Technology Alliance, Canada's only grouping of incubators and technology service providers that nourish the success and growth of emerging knowledge-based companies and coordinate the region's business incubators.

The Edmonton Research Park (ERP) houses dozens of research companies and is managed by Edmonton Economic Development Corporation (EEDC).
