New: Special Characters at IT-Domains and FR-Domains

Citizens and Companies from Switzerland may also register it-domains

(PresseBox) - The Italian Registry is changing its policies."The it-domains go beyond the European Union boundaries and 'wear' the accent."
The date of 11th July marks a turning point: it-domains can be registered even with special characters like accented letters or non-Latin characters (IDN). It will be possible to register it-domains with non-ASCII characters such as à, â, ä, è, é, ê, ë, ì, î, ï, ò, ô, ö, ß, ù, û, ü, æ, ?, ç and ÿ.
Only companies and citizens from the EU can register today it-domains. This will change too at 11th July. Additional to the 27 countries of the European Union, citizens and companies of the countries of the European Economic Space - including Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Vatican,San Marino and Switzerland- will be able to register it-domains.
The French Registry introduces IDN .fr. You can register since 3.May 2012
fr-domains with special characters like accents.
There are two phases: a "grandfathering period" between 3.Mai and 3.July. Owners of fr-domains can get their IDN .fr. After 3rd July 2012 anybody can register .fr with special characters.
