Shuswap Celebration! Mara Lake Wine and Cheese Tasting Announced
Clean up underway in Sicamous as lakefront celebration hosted at Hummingbird Beach Resort

(firmenpresse) - SICAMOUS, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 07/03/12 -- With the clean up underway, roads opening up and evacuation orders lifted, the Shuswap Valley is working hard to rescue its summer tourist season. Hummingbird Beach Resort announced today that the 3rd Annual Shuswap Celebration! has been moved to July 8th. The Shuswap Celebration! is a wine and cheese tasting featuring local ShuswapMara Lake Valley suppliers.
"Flood or no flood, and the Shuswap is still one of the best summer destinations," says Steele Jordan, president of Hummingbird Beach Resort, "We've up the ante by including a wine and cheese tasting, but there will still be hot dogs for the kids."
The Shuswap Celebration! is open to the public and guests are invited to join the celebration by boat or car. Celebrations start at 11 am and run to 3 pm. Hummingbird Beach Resort is slightly south of Sicamous at Swansea Point on and is a lakefront cabin and cottage community.
The wine and cheese tasting features Larch Hills Winery, known for its award-winning cool climate wines not available in other parts of B.C. Larch Hills is providing a tasting of its European varietals including Ortega, Madeleine Angevine, Siegerrebe, Lemberger and Marechal Foch. Gort's Gouda Cheese Farm will be providing samples of its artisan cheeses made from all natural ingredients and no preservatives including its spiced Gouda, Maasdammer and wickedly delightful creme faiche. White Lake Organics will also be serving its organic Bickies - snappy biscuits.
Due to quick action taken by Hummingbird, the resort was largely unaffected by the flooding. Highway 97A from Vernon to Sicamous is now open and evacuation orders have been lifted. Visitors should bring drinking water as a Do Not Consume order remains in effect. For those wishing to donate funds, a trust fund has been set up at the Sicamous Branch of the Salmon Arm Savings and Credit Union. The account is Sicamous 2012 Flood Victims, account number 1545250, Branch 2.
