(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 07/21/12 -- "I am pleased with the decision by the London Court of International Arbitration, which is important for Canada's world-class softwood industry and the workers and families whose jobs depend on it. Our government will continue to promote the forest sector as it is vital to the Canadian economy.

"In ruling in Canada's favour, the Court's decision confirms that Canada is fully compliant with the Softwood Lumber Agreement and that British Columbia's timber pricing system honours the Agreement.

"Canada remains committed to the success of the Softwood Lumber Agreement as it provides stability and certainty to industry and consumers on both sides of the border.

"It is my sincere hope that in the future, Canada and the United States will use their resources to build on our work together to grow markets for responsibly produced timber and innovative wood products.

"Our Government continues to invest in the expansion of international markets for Canadian forest products so that Canadian jobs are protected and our industry is more resilient. We stood up for the forest sector in our Jobs, Growth and Long Term Prosperity - Economic Action Plan 2012 where we increased funding for forest innovation and market access and diversification. This strategy is helping the industry become stronger and expand our markets in Asia. The result has been significant sales increases, which in turn keep mills operating and protect Canadian jobs."
