Tennis players from 15 countries battled it out for a medal


(PresseBox) - The tennis elite got together in Koblenz for the 12th European Deaf Tennis Championships, which took place from 14th to 21st July. The German team was able to record a number of successes during an exciting tournament on home ground. Heike Albrecht won the gold medal for Germany in the Ladies' Singles. Germany also won gold in the Ladies' Doubles, with Heike Albrecht and Verena Fleckenstein. In the Men's Doubles tournament, Hans Tödter and Urs Breitenberger won the silver medal.
VARTA Microbattery is delighted with the outstanding performance of the German team. The battery manufacturer supplied all the tennis players in the German squad with its power one hearing aid batteries throughout the European championships.
As part of the European Tennis Championships, an open tournament was held for the first time for young tennis players from all over Europe. The hearing aid battery brand power one sponsored this tournament, donating trophies for the winners, in order to promote deaf tennis amongst young people in Europe. At the end of the championships, Sonja Peitl-Steinert from VARTA Microbattery paid tribute to the young tennis players on behalf of the entire power one team and handed over the winners' trophies to the young European tennis enthusiasts.
