Canada's Labour Minister Meets With Key Stakeholders to Discuss Issues Related to Women in the Workforce

(firmenpresse) - BRANDON, MANITOBA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/01/12 -- The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, today hosted a round table with key stakeholders on the issue of women in the workforce. Minister Raitt was accompanied by Merv Tweed, Member of Parliament for Brandon-Souris.

"I would like to thank all the participants for sharing their comments and best practice approaches. Our collaborative work helps to better understand the challenges women face in today's evolving workplaces," said Minister Raitt. "By working together, we can create a model for fair, respectful and healthy workplaces for women that will lead to a strong and prosperous Canada."

The round table was an opportunity for Minister Raitt to hold open dialogues with key stakeholders and seek their input on a number of issues faced by women in the workplace. Discussion topics included employment equity, workplace violence, harassment, discrimination, recruitment and retention.

This meeting is part of the Government of Canada's commitment to promote productive workplaces for a stronger economy.

The Labour Program develops, administers and enforces workplace legislation and regulations, including the Employment Equity Act and the Canada Labour Code, which covers industrial relations, health and safety and employment standards. These laws apply to federally regulated workers and employers.
