MXK central to leadership in FTTx market, increased customer deployments and
multi-region growth

Zhone Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZHNE), a global leader in FTTx network access
solutions, has continued vigorous deployment of its industry-leading MXK(TM)
multi-service access node (MSAN) and as a result, has recognized significant
global growth for its Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON), Active Ethernet
(AE) and Very-High-Bit-Rate Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL2) business. The number
of MXK platform deployments has more than doubled since Q2 2011, expanding from
approximately 1,500 systems to more than 3,650, generating a total subscriber
capacity of 27 million. In Q2 2012, alone, Zhone shipped more than 400 MXKs.
This momentum is central to the company's continued leadership within the market
and validates the strength of its comprehensive end-to-end FTTx solutions.
Recognized as a top-five global player in the FTTH market by leading industry
analysts for the third consecutive year, Zhone continues to deliver significant
growth in FTTx system and deployments, outpacing projections and multiple
suppliers within the market. Since 2009, Zhone's FTTx customer base has grown
by more than 500 percent.

is the industry's first terabit access concentrator and provides non-blocking
capacity of up to 3,600 100 Mbps GPON subscribers or 360 1G Active Ethernet
