(firmenpresse) - TAMPA, FL -- (Marketwire) -- 08/20/12 -- , one of the nation's largest providers of electronic health records and practice management software and services, announced today that Nebraska's East Central Health Department's Good Neighbor Community Health Center has achieved Meaningful Use with the company's electronic health records (EHR) solution. The health center was the first beneficiary of Nebraska Medicaid's recently launched EHR incentive program.

Good Neighbor Community Health Center is a rural community center staffed by two family physicians, a psychiatrist and a dentist. The mission of the Good Neighbor Community Health Center is to work in collaboration with the community to increase access to primary preventative healthcare in order to improve the health of the community and especially of the underserved and vulnerable populations.

EHRs are expected to reduce medical errors at the health center, especially as handwritten prescriptions are replaced by electronic ones. Other projected benefits of the electronic system include more efficient overall processes, improved doctor-patient communications and, consequently, better care.

"East Central could not have achieved our Meaningful Use without having Vitera Intergy software to help capture the data," said Rebecca J. Rayman, executive director of Good Neighbor Community Health Center.

Hundreds of providers across the state of Nebraska are now eligible to receive financial incentives for improving the care of their patients by implementing electronic medical records. Through the incentive programs, clinicians may receive as much as $63,750 over six years through Medicaid if all criteria are met.

Through the Medicaid EHR Incentive Program, clinicians and hospitals can receive a payment during their first year of participation for adopting, implementing or upgrading to EHRs. They must demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHR technology in ways that can be measured significantly in both quality and in quantity to receive continued payments after their first year. This program gives providers options and incentives to use health IT to improve care for their patients, which can improve patient health and lower costs. Over the next three years total incentives to clinicians and hospitals are anticipated to comprise more than $150 million to offset the cost of implementation.
