Unigen Introduces Flash Storage Technology That Increases P/E Cycles up to 50K Using MLC Flash

Unigen Endura™ Enables Products to Close the Gap Between SLC and MLC

(firmenpresse) - FREMONT, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/21/12 -- Unigen Corporation, a leading OEM designer and manufacturer of enterprise-grade flash storage, DRAM, and wireless communication modules, today announced its new Unigen Endura™ technology, which has advantages of single-level cell (SLC) flash but at a lower cost.

Until now, MLC drives have been limited to about 5000 program/erase cycles. For applications requiring a high number of continuous writes, designers have been using SLC flash, which can cost up to three times higher than MLC. Flash drives using Unigen Endura™ offer as many as 50,000 program/erase cycles using MLC flash.

"We are excited to introduce an economical alternative to SLC based solutions for system designers that need higher endurance than traditional MLC," said Paul Heng, CEO of Unigen.

Unigen Endura™ technology also supports SMART commands, enabling designers to query the drive for health monitoring of the product. By monitoring the drive, the host device and applications software can perform proactive housekeeping functions before problems arise and avoid system downtime. This will be a huge advantage to IT professionals.

Unigen Endura™ will be available as an option on Unigen's SD, CF, USB and SSD storage products. Samples are available now.
