New Solution Enables VMware View Customers to Fully Automate the Deployment and Configuration of Storage-Less VDI Across Thousands of Desktops

(firmenpresse) - SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/27/12 -- Atlantis Computing™, the leader in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) storage and performance optimization solutions, today announced that it will demonstrate Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI™ at VMworld 2012 in San Francisco, August 26 through August 30 at booth #423. Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI simplifies VMware View deployments, enabling customers to deploy storage-less virtual desktops using only server CPU and RAM, creating a better user experience than a physical PC.

The live demonstration will show how customers can achieve better-than-physical PC performance using VMware View 5.1 with Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI at a cost per desktop of $198 using two different server configurations -- Cisco UCS C250 and Dell PowerEdge R720XD.

- Deduplicates inline virtual desktop images, reducing their size up to 99% and enabling VMware View linked-clones to be stored in local server memory.

- Reduces the amount of memory needed per virtual desktop image to 200-600MB per desktop.

- Deploy Atlantis ILIO on hundreds of servers across dozens of racks, providing Diskless VDI data stores for thousands of virtual desktops within 20 minutes.

- Automatically calculates the optimal density based on available server CPU and RAM to configure Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI with no human intervention.

- Atlantis ILIO Fast Cloning can clone virtual desktop images in as few as 5 seconds.

Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI is the only solution in the industry to enable stateless VDI deployments without the need for virtual desktop storage - which traditionally represents 40% to 60% of the total cost of a VDI deployment. SSDs, SAS and SATA drives are completely eliminated from any deployment, greatly reducing CAPEX and all storage-related OPEX including power, cooling and the cost of maintaining and repairing failed devices. In addition, without storage sizing, deploying stateless desktops has never been so simple. Atlantis ILIO just uses local server memory as storage for VMware View desktops, delivering a better than PC user experience. VMware View Persona Management is used to redirect user data such as My Document files, desktop settings and application-specific data onto traditional shared storage.

Atlantis Computing is transforming enterprise desktop computing by solving the challenges of virtual desktop deployments: storage costs, performance and deployment risks. The Atlantis ILIO software complements VDI solutions to cut VDI costs and deliver a desktop that is faster and cheaper than a PC. With Atlantis ILIO, IT organizations can deploy 4-7 times more desktops on the same storage footprint, making VDI more affordable by both cutting the amount of storage needed per desktop and enabling the use of less expensive storage options. Atlantis Computing is privately held and funded by El Dorado Ventures, Partech International and Cisco Systems with headquarters in Mountain View, California, and offices in London, England.
