Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Chooses MDdatacor to Support Key Patient-Centered Medical Home Initiative

ID: 180101

(firmenpresse) - ATLANTA, GA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/04/12 -- Providers participating in the Kansas patient-centered medical home (PCMH) Initiative will soon have access to technology that will help them easily identify patient care opportunities.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS) has contracted with , a provider of health care IT solutions that empower payers and providers to deliver the highest quality health care possible, to implement the company's propriety technology and software platform MDinsight®. The platform is a web-based tool that extracts data from physicians' records across provider systems, analyzes it against evidence-based guidelines, identifies care opportunities in their patient populations, and helps to ensure compliance with the medical home program's measurement standards. MDdatacor's will also support BCBSKS' participation in the Kansas PCMH initiative, a pilot sponsored by the Kansas Association of Family Physicians.

"MDinsight is a proven tool in assisting in the implementation of PCMH programs," said Dr. Michael Atwood, chief medical officer for . "We have seen the success other plans -- especially Blues plans -- have had across the country. We are looking forward to benefiting from that experience as we begin to utilize this product in Kansas."

MDdatacor currently supports nine BCBS plans with its MDinsight software solution.

"This tool will bring improved functionality. Most important is the ability to automatically collect, analyze and compile clinical data on a patient from any of the participating providers and display it at the point of service," explained Atwood. "For years, Kansas physicians have been using dictation and notepads, and that data is not easily shared among the caregiver community. Now that process and results will be available in near real time so they can be reviewed daily, rather than quarterly or semi-annually. Care will be more timely, and we'll be able to monitor patient outcomes so that care processes can continually be improved."

Medical home models place the patient and primary care practice at the center of care and create a collaborative partnership between the patient and personal physician. BCBS plans are testing reimbursement models to support practices in providing care highlighted by improved access, care coordination and demonstrated improvements in clinical quality and physician and patient satisfaction.

" is known for its leadership in improving patient quality and outcomes," said Dr. David Hanekom, chief medical officer for MDdatacor. "We are pleased to help support this important health initiative in the state."
