Grammer Wins Largest Seat Order Ever from Deutsche Bahn
Delivery contract of 46,000 seats to modernize the IC
New cushion center at Grammer's site in Tachov
Amberg / September 12, 2012 - In a project to modernize more than 770 of
Deutsche Bahn's roughly 1,500 IC cars, 46,000 seats are being replaced.
This is the single largest seat order that Deutsche Bahn has ever placed.
It will be completely filled by Grammer Railway Interior GmbH, the leading
German producer of train seats. The 46,000 seats will be delivered over a
period of three years.
The project to redesign the IC trains is referred to as 'IC mod'. 33
different versions are being made for first class and 41 for second class.
This large diversity is due to the different layouts of the more than 770
cars. Seat assembly takes place in accordance with the principles of LEAN
production and, together with just-in-time supply of materials, ensures on
time delivery to the DB facilities in Nuremberg, Kassel and Neumünster.
Projects to refurbish existing fleets are a growing market. For the 'IC
mod' project, a whole new cushion center began operating at Grammer's site
in Tachov, Czech Republic. Foaming, sewing, and upholstering are done there
by the company's own staff, thus increasing Grammer's own value add.
