Media Advisory/Vanier Farmers Market Tourtiere Competition: Celebrating Canada's Most Authentic Dish
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 09/13/12 -- On Saturday, Sept 15 at 11 AM, local farmers and Vanier restaurateurs will be facing off in an oven heated competition of homemade Tourtiere at the Quartier Vanier Farmers Market on the corner of Hannah and Montreal Road, Scotiabank parking lot. The tourtiere competition and the market are operated by the Quartier Vanier Merchants Association (BIA), the first to have launched an inner city outdoor market in Ottawa. Back by popular demand, the tourtiere competitors will be preparing their pies using original recipes and their very own special ingredients. Participating chefs include:
Each pie will be judged on taste (most important!), texture, aroma and presentation. The hard job of deciding which Chef has the best tourtiere will be done by including Returning Honorary Judge Ron Eade of Omnivore's Ottawa. Food critic extraordinaire, Ron helped set standards and rules last year stating: "If I could leave a thought with the winners: I'd happily suggest they consider making a few of these delectables for take-out this Christmas. I'd certainly buy them, and I'll bet I'm not alone." The 2011 winners were Island Spiced, Bobby's Table and Maison Baguette.
Mr. Eade will be joined by Don Kelly, comedian and broadcaster; Councillor Mathieu Fleury; Allison Fisher, Wabano Centre; David Chick, VP Domicile Developments and; bloggers Susan Murphy and Bob LeDrew.
