County Cites Tintri's Cost-Effective Performance, Improved End-User Experience as Major Drivers of Its VDI Initiative

(firmenpresse) - MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/19/12 -- Tintri, Inc., the leading producer of , today announced that Bartholomew County, Indiana has successfully deployed a Tintri VMstore T540 appliance to support its virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). Bartholomew County ran into cost and performance barriers with its legacy storage system as it began virtualizing more server workloads. The experience made the county hesitant to use its existing storage for a VDI project. After evaluating a number of alternatives for a VDI project, Bartholomew County selected Tintri's VM-aware storage solution for its reliable performance, improved end-user experience and its extremely low cost-per-VM.

Bartholomew County previously used Fibre Channel (FC) storage systems to support its virtual environment, but needed additional storage capacity to ensure adequate performance for its growing pool of virtual desktops. It was quickly determined that their existing storage solution could not support the increased performance demands of mixed server and desktop workloads. Tintri's VM-aware storage solution, which is purpose-built to handle mixed virtualized workloads, has allowed Bartholomew County to slash its storage footprint by over 50% while supporting over 120 VMs on just a single node. Additionally, Tintri's VM and vDisk-level management simplified administration so both virtualization and storage administrators can proactively monitor and troubleshoot individual VMs.

"Tintri's intuitive management and VM-aware statistics made proactive troubleshooting a breeze," said Jenifer Slabaugh, Systems Administrator for Bartholomew County. "We currently run 120 concurrent desktop sessions on the Tintri appliance and still have plenty of performance and capacity left to expand the footprint, thanks to Tintri's architecture, which leverages flash as first-class storage rather than as cache."

"Like most government agencies, Bartholomew County needs reliable high-performance storage at the lowest possible cost per desktop," said Kieran Harty, Tintri CEO. "Our VM-aware solution is purpose-built for virtual environments. Tintri's customers are able to proactively manage deployments via a simple, intuitive management console that allows administrators to quickly diagnose and address problems, letting them spend time on more important issues."
