Providers Need to Adopt More Robust Reporting to Keep Track of Apprentices, Says Perspective

(firmenpresse) - LONDON, ENGLAND -- (Marketwire) -- 09/20/12 -- A new report has found that hundreds of providers are failing to meet a government target for tracking whether apprentices have secured full-time jobs. Perspective, a leading provider of software, has today expressed concerns over the latest findings and encourages providers to invest in accurate monitoring technology to get the most out of apprenticeships.

Latest figures from the Information Authority (IA) show that 40 per cent of providers had missed the government's target, with 30,000 records returned last academic year with "not known", "not provided" or "missing" in the employment status box.

As a result of this, the National Union of Students (NUS) has called for urgent action to ensure learning providers will report this invaluable information in the future.

Paul Davis, the managing director of Perspective, a renowned provider, said: "Monitoring learner progression and the consequent employment success is imperative for managing the success of vocational courses in this country. Being able to find out which apprentices have been able to secure jobs will not only improve the quality of vocational courses but will also encourage more people to take up apprenticeships. If providers are not following up on learners' progression, then tens of thousands of apprentices go unaccounted for.

"Tracking learners needn't be a laborious task; instead it could simply be the introduction of learning management software that will enable providers to monitor learners after they have moved into the workplace. This is also a great opportunity to gain feedback on courses and to make improvements that will ultimately benefit future learners.

"With the rise in university tuition fees coming into force this year, more people are looking towards apprenticeships as an alternative to get into employment. Therefore, more than ever, we should be insisting that learning providers track apprentices once their courses are finished."
