'Orwellian Spy Game' Challenges Angry Birds for Major Award

Launched at the dawn of video games in 1982, the Golden Joystick Awards presented by HMV is among the world's best-known gaming awards.
"Our Best Mobile/Tablet category isn't just about blockbusters like Angry Birds," explains Rob Taylor, Editorial Director of the awards. "Sometimes the most intriguing, arresting advances are actually occurring in smaller titles like RocketChicken's CodeRunner, an ingeniously Orwellian spy game with inspired GPS integration."
CodeRunner for iPhone is an outdoor game requiring players to travel to real locations, completing missions which advance a conspiracy-themed adventure. It uses the iPhone to send and receive mission updates in real-time. The voice of a "handler" guides players and comments on their surroundings. "The game knows where you are and reacts to what you do. It's like a nightmare police state but you get to be the police," says Jeff Macpherson, Creative Lead on CodeRunner.
As undercover agents for the Department of Privacy, players walk to destinations throughout their neighbourhood to "hack" bank accounts, tap security cameras, eavesdrop on calls, steal files, sabotage systems, and commit all manner of digital espionage mayhem.
RocketChicken uses proprietary Artificial Intelligence technology to enable its Adaptive Content Engine to responds to player movements, GPS coordinates, and time of day to deliver custom gameplay that works anywhere in the world.
The awards ceremony for the 30th presented by HMV will be held in London, England on October 26, 2012. Winners are selected by popular vote at and voting closes on October 22, 2012.
