Equity Trust Company: Complaints About Retirement Readiness Solved by Self-Directed Plans
Many Employers Doubt That Their Employees Are Retirement-Ready -- a Sobering Finding That Has Earned a Comment From Equity Trust Company
(firmenpresse) - NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 11/05/12 -- Around the country, employers provide their workers with retirement planning and investment options. These options are provided so that employees can set aside money and grow their personal wealth, in hopes of one day being able to enjoy a financially stable and secure retirement. According to a new , however, many employers have serious doubts about whether these retirement options are really enough, and about whether their employees are truly retirement ready. According to Equity Trust Company, complaints about retirement readiness are common among workers, but there are actions that can be taken to make retirement options more viable.
The new survey, conducted by worldwide professional services firm Towers Watson, found that the number of employees participating in employer-directed retirement programs has increased. Even so, many employers are skeptical that these efforts will be enough to provide their employees with sound, healthy retirements. In fact, only about one in five study participants believed that their employees were making the kinds of informed decisions needed to plan for financially stable retirements.
This finding has caught the attention of Equity Trust Company. At from such employees are not uncommon; according to the company, however, these complaints typically stem from the lack of investment options that they have available to them. As such, Equity Trust tries to provide investors more options through self-directed retirement plans. The company has responded to the survey with a new statement to the press.
"It is not uncommon for individuals to be wary of their company 401(k) and pension plans because of limited choices in plans, a reliance on the volatility of the market, and unknown management fees," says Equity Trust. "More and more, people are looking to themselves and to less restrictive self-directed retirement plans to make sure their financial future is secured."
The self-directed retirement plans, like those administered by Equity Trust Company, provide investors with a wealth of options. Instead of being limited to investment in stocks and mutual funds, as do most traditional employer provided IRAs and 401(k)s, self-directed plans may allow investors to put their funds into real estate, oil and gas, or other investment opportunities as they determine. With such a self-directed plan, the investor chooses how funds are invested, ultimately allowing for a level of control and a freedom not present in traditional, employer-run retirement accounts.
