(firmenpresse) - LONDON -- (Marketwire) -- 11/05/12 -- The UK's recent economic downturn has encouraged small businesses to look for 'green' solutions for business savings.

The recession has been a driver for sustainability for UK small businesses. The steady rise in energy costs has motivated SMEs to look for savings through green initiatives.

Small business owners have been most successful in saving with simple changes to their offices. SMEs often think that achieving a greener office is a huge undertaking, while there are many quick ways to reduce costs. For example, something as easy as changing light bulbs can cut energy bills.

The concept of 'going green' can be interpreted differently from business to business. , which helps UK businesses source office equipment and services, recognises that there are many ways a business can approach creating a more sustainable office.

For example, reducing energy consumption, relying on an alternate energy source, or even reducing CO2 emissions. However, SMEs do not need to make all of these changes to see tangible results in cutting costs.

Recent government initiatives have helped drive awareness and give SMEs information on creating a greener business environment. With the help of sustainable projects such as Go Green Plus, many UK businesses have already saved a lot of money with small changes.

Helen Clark Bell, Go Green Plus project manager from MCC Business Solutions, said, "We have helped businesses generate significant annual savings and often their actions have had no cost or little cost to implement."
