Patient-Centric Approach Facilitates Seamless Data Interoperability With Numerous Clinical Information Systems

(firmenpresse) - BETHESDA, MD -- (Marketwire) -- 11/05/12 -- ®, the leading provider of (IPC) solutions, has reached a milestone that marks the 350th interface the company has implemented in hospitals across the U.S. Using industry standards such as HL7 and web services, GetWellNetwork's open and flexible platform extends the value of hospital IT investments by interfacing with a multitude of health information technology (HIT) systems including , , , and others. Today, GetWellNetwork is implemented in more than 20,000 hospital beds.

A key benefit of GetWellNetwork's technology is that it easily integrates into a multitude of hospital clinical systems to enhance and extend their functionality without changing it. For example, the GetWellNetwork system, when integrated with a hospital's food service system, will allow patients to safely order meals that fall within their dietary requirements.

Other examples include:

By integrating the GetWellNetwork system with the EMR, a bar code reader and a nurse communication system, a more efficient workflow can result. The nurse scans and administers a specific pain medication at the bedside, and assesses and documents the patient's pain. The GetWellNetwork system is then triggered at defined intervals to ask the patient to assess their pain on a scale that appears on their bedside TV. The patient's assigned nurse is notified of the patient's perceived pain rating and can then take the appropriate action. This approach ensures compliance with post-intervention reassessments and facilitates nursing efficiency by supplying the nurse with timely information and assisting with documentation of the pain rating in the EMR.

When the GetWellNetwork system is integrated with a (RTLS), patients are notified when hospital staff enters a patient's room, and are able to see their name, title and photograph displayed on their bedside TV.

The GetWellNetwork system also shares data seamlessly with hospital admissions and discharge systems, electronic medical records, computerized provider order entry, scheduling, transportation, billing, prescriptions, and other functions. The more data available to GetWellNetwork, the more personalized and engaging the experience becomes for the patient.

"A hospital stay can be a very confusing and anxiety-producing experience for people," said Cheryl Gnehm, vice president, Professional Services, GetWellNetwork. "When integrated with other systems, the GetWellNetwork system allows patients on their bedside TV to easily and simply understand information that is typically clinical and technical in nature. Our goal is to help make the entire hospital experience as comforting as possible by providing real value for the patient as well as the hospital staff."

The GetWellNetwork IPC solution has also assisted hospitals in meeting meaningful use requirements by engaging patients and their families through education. places a strong emphasis on patient engagement and satisfaction (HCAHPS surveys) as a means of improving health. The GetWellNetwork system enables hospitals to bring patient-centered, interactive patient care to the bedside and across the care continuum engaging patients and their families in the care process.

GetWellNetwork, Inc. entertains, educates, and empowers patients throughout the patient journey using the bedside TV and iPad in the hospital, mobile devices, Web or Cable TV at home. This patient-centered approach improves both satisfaction and outcomes for patients and hospitals. Additionally, the company extends the value of existing IT investments by integrating seamlessly to leading HIT systems including , , , , and .
