Wärtsilä receives major order from Brazil - to supply power solution for FPSO vessel
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
Wärtsilä Corporation, Press release, 4 May 2010, at 11 am local time
Wärtsilä has signed a major contract with the Brazilian industrial group QUIP to
supply a total integrated power solution for a new Floating Production Storage
and Offloading (FPSO) vessel. The order includes three main power modules,
commissioning, start-up as well as operational supervision. The vessel is unique
in that it will be the first FPSO vessel ever to operate on more than 100 MWe of
installed power, produced by gas engines.
Wärtsilä's efficient gas-fired power solution will also have significantly lower
levels of carbon dioxide emissions compared to conventional technologies.
Compared to those technologies, carbon dioxide emissions of the installation
with the output of 100 MWe can be reduced by 93,000 tons per year. Furthermore,
since Wärtsilä's engines can be run on treated well gas as well as various
diesel oils, the customer's operating costs can be notably reduced.
"Wärtsilä's track record is outstanding in multi-fuel technology and in
providing ongoing technical support. We have every confidence in the company's
ability to provide the needed technical solution, and we are sure it will
minimise both our operating costs and environmental footprint. We also value the
company as a trusted strategic partner with the resources to provide reliable
operational support," said Mr Miguelangelo Thomé, CEO, QUIP.
The power modules will be ready for installation in July 2011 and oil production
is scheduled to begin in 2013. The vessel will operate on Brazil's new Papa
Terra oilfield, located some 110 kilometres off the coast of Rio de Janeiro in
the southern Campos Basin.
