SkySQL Training Creates Future MySQL(R) Database Cloud Experts
Instructor-Led "MySQL(R) Database for the Cloud" Course Available in Early 2013 in Five Cities Worldwide

(firmenpresse) - SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/13/12 -- , the trusted provider of open source database solutions, today debuted details and schedules for its first-ever training course. The instructor-led classes, available in early 2013 in five cities across US and Europe, help skilled DBAs and developers move MySQL database migrations into the cloud.
US dates scheduled in early 2013 include:
- January 29-31, 2013
- February 26-28, 2013
- April 16-18, 2013
Due to its capabilities than legacy systems, more organizations are moving applications to the cloud with databases being of particular interest. DBAs should therefore at least be able to know how to maintain databases that are operating in a cloud environment. Cost is a factor in moving to the cloud, but its influence is not as great as originally thought. Using open source code in the cloud, which is continually tested and improved, will reap benefits for DBAs.
With that in mind, SkySQL's new training course is designed to help those who want to get the best from the MySQL database as part of their cloud computing architecture. Beginning with sharing details of "do it yourself" vs. DBaaS, the class curriculum focuses on the pros and cons of different cloud providers, as well as MySQL-specific use cases that both work and don't work in a cloud environment. There is also deep discussion covering rapid deployment, availability zones, monitoring and managing MySQL database instances, scaling up and out, load balancing, failover, recovery, replication and more.
For those thinking about moving their MySQL database into the cloud, this is the only class that gives DBAs personalized instruction on doing it successfully. According to Max Mether, SkySQL manager of training services, "If you're thinking about moving your MySQL system to the cloud, now is the time to do it. We'll hold your hand every step of the way to minimize risk and help you best understand how to make it work for you today and in the future. You'll be a MySQL in the cloud expert in no time."
Each three-day course is led by an instructor and includes hands-on lab exercises. Attendees will learn how to:
Identify the pros and cons of DIY vs DBaaS approaches in the cloud
Choose a hosting solution or cloud provider that best suits their requirements
Migrate existing apps to the cloud, as well as how to best design new apps
Implement, deploy, monitor, and maintain their cloud environment
Configure their MySQL database to best utilize the cloud environment
Basic DBA knowledge is required to attend the course. It is also recommended that students attend the "Administering MySQL®" or "Developing Applications with the MySQL® Database" training courses prior to registering for the "MySQL® for the Cloud" course.
