Dusseldorf, 17.05.2010 - In the first quarter of 2010, Essanelle Hair Group
AG managed to improve its earnings in comparison with the previous year
despite slightly reduced sales. Sales revenues amounted to EUR 30.7
million, as against EUR 31.0 million in the first quarter of the previous
year. This was due to a continuously weak retail environment as well as an
unchanged number of salons during the previous year.
Achim Mansen, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Essanelle Hair Group AG:
'The sales trend in the year to date is not yet consistent. Two rather weak
starting months were followed by a stronger March, which also benefited
from the Easter period. What is important to us is that we have been able
to accelerate the opening of new salons considerably in order to launch up
to 60 new salons in the full year.'
With regard to the individual salon concepts, HairExpress shows the biggest
growth with an increase of 11.7% to EUR 8.2 million (prior-year quarter:
EUR 7.3 million). Super Cut managed to increase their sales by 2.7% to EUR
5.1 million from EUR 5.0 million in the same period last year. The concept
essanelle Ihr Friseur, which was hit hardest by the closures, obtained EUR
14.6 million after EUR 15.8 million (-8.0%). The TOP TEN brand generated
EUR 1.3 million as in the previous year. The Beauty Hair Shops specialised
in selling salon-exclusive products improved their sales revenues by 3.6%
to EUR 1.6 million (previous year: EUR 1.5 million).
Earnings figures improved
The EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation)
increased by 5.4% from EUR 1.6 million last year to EUR 1.7 million. After
the first three months of 2010 the pre-tax earnings (EBT) lie at EUR 0.3
million after EUR 0.2 million in the previous year. The earnings per share
amount to EUR 0.06 compared to EUR 0.02 in the previous year.
In this regard, Mansen states: 'In spite of slightly reduced sales
revenues, we managed to improve our earnings figures. Furthermore we are
confident that we will also be able to realise this for the full year -
even if an exact prognosis against the background of continued uncertain
economic development will only be possible during the course of the year.'
