Asda Mumdex research shows that 64% of mums pay for bills and deal with service providers; 77% of mums in a relationship manage the household budget.
With this in mind and in the wake of energy suppliers all announcing price hikes, it could be worth finding ways to reduce your energy bill now.
British Gas, SSE, Scottish Power, Npower and EDF Energy have all announced price hikes-pushing up the average annual dual fuel bill by GBP 80-GBP 122.(ii)
Millions of households will be affected by the changes; however, Asda Money offers top tips on how to reduce energy bills this winter.
1. Switch suppliers
One of the most effective and fastest ways of reducing your energy bill is by switching suppliers. The Asda tool could help households save up GBP 331 a year by switching providers online.(iii)
2. Get insulated
There are a number of ways you can try to keep your energy bills down and one of them involves good insulation. Loft insulation, wall cavity insulation and draught exclusion can provide households with a total saving of around GBP 220 a year.(iv) Another way to prevent heat from escaping through windows is to invest in thick curtains and keep them closed.
3. Be energy efficient
A simple and effective way to reduce your energy bills is to reduce your energy usage. Some 25% of an average household's energy consumption is caused by lighting.(v) It could be worth turning off lights in rooms that are not in use and using energy saving lightbulbs instead.
