(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
Helsinki, Finland 2012 - December 14, 2012 - The network security company
Stonesoft has signed a cooperation agreement with the Algerian Ministry of Post
and Information & Communication Technologies (MPTIC) to raise awareness and
knowledge about cybercrime and to provide academic security training in Algeria.
The cooperation agreement covers two aspects: raising awareness in the fight
against cybercrime and academic cooperation in the field of network security.
Stonesoft and MPTIC will host a seminar for a high-level Algerian delegation in
charge of the fight against cybercrime.
In terms of the academic cooperation, three Stonesoft Academies will be
established in Algeria to share best practices in network security training. In
addition, a virtual classroom will be established at the Research Centre of
Information Technology and Communication (CERTIC) of Sidi Abdellah to provide
online courses by Finnish security experts. The Stonesoft Academy training will
complement the academic training by Algerian universities and include also
Stonesoft's certification exams.
"The fight against cybercrime requires awareness, competence and constant
development to keep pace with the rapidly evolving technologies and threats. We
are proud to provide the Algerian Ministry of Post and Information &
Communication Technologies our latest knowledge and expertise in this area",
says Ilkka Hiidenheimo, CEO of Stonesoft Corporation.
"Although the number and impact of cyber attacks has been quite minimal in
Algeria until now, we must be prepared and make sure out networks are
efficiently protected. Awareness in crucial, but it is just the first step. To
efficiently fight cybercrime, international cooperation is required. We are very
happy to cooperate with Stonesoft, a company with unique understanding,
innovations and a long and respectable track record in the demanding area of
network security", said Moussa Benhamadi, Minister of Post and Information &
Communication Technologies, Algeria.
