Cheapflights.ca Survey Reveals Less Than a Third of Canadians Are Headed Home for the Holidays

(firmenpresse) - TORONTO -- (Marketwire) -- 12/20/12 -- A survey conducted by , the online leader in finding and publishing travel deals, showed that just over 80 per cent of Canadians want to travel to see family this Christmas but less than 30 per cent have actually made travel plans.

Based on answers from the over 400 Canadians, the survey also found that just over 18 per cent wish they could travel to escape their family, though only 3.2 per cent of respondents are actually doing exactly that this year.

Parents and children topped the list of favourite family members to visit while the in-laws were at the bottom with less than 2% of people having them on their holiday travel wish-list.

More than 12% of the Cheapflights.ca survey respondents said that they will avoid seeing their brother or sister. However, an astounding 23 per cent wrote in that there were no relatives they wanted to avoid.

The survey finds the high cost of travel as well as the long distance and hassle of travelling, followed closely by "whether I like them" as the main factors in whether or not to visit relatives this holiday season.

The sense of camaraderie/good spirit was the most enjoyable factor of holiday travel with around 27% of Canadian travellers choosing that as their favourite aspect. Settling down with something to drink was the fourth most enjoyable part of holiday travel, receiving just over 13% of the vote.
